The other thing you need to know is that I’ve dipped in and out of this album for 4 or 5 weeks now, trying to get a handle on Vanderhorst’s quirky voice and songwriting style; which I can only describe as being melancholia loaded good timey, old timey, Bluegrassy Folk Music … or something like that.

Singer songwriter, Derek Vanderhorst is a musicians musician. With a fierce dedication to his craft, stemming from a near death experience with head neck cancer his songwriting is raw and real, channeling early days of folk music. Having over three decades in Hollywood supervising and mixing films Derek is a true artist of sound.
Derek has just finished recording his Second Album Titled “Be Kind” with friends John Mailander (fiddle with Billy Strings / Bruce Hornsby) Frank Evans (Banjo Slocan Ramblers) releasing spring of 2024. His friend Steve Poltz helps out on the song, “Be Kind” which is a reminder to always be gracious to each other. You can tell the two comrades' voices are perfect for each other.
